Register & Book an Assessment Appointment
for Level A Certification
REGISTRATION
You need to register with the BC Association for Crane Safety (BCACS).
You will need your BCACS Registration Number when you book your appointment for assessment.
ASSESSMENT for Level A Certification
To begin the certification process, you need to fill out and submit an application form. Applications can be submitted by an individual crane operator or by the employer.
Each assessment is for one only. Find out which types of crane each crane type is qualified to operate. On the application form, you need to indicate the crane make and model you will be assessed on so we can prepare a load chart exercise that matches this type of crane. If, at the time of assessment, operational requirements mean you must use a different crane, this is alright so long as it is the same classification you want to be certified on.
The crane used for the assessment must be in good working order and have an up-to-date certification. Outrigger pads must be available for crane set up. Adequate space must be available and no power lines may be in the operating area. The minimum crane size for assessment is 25 feet (7.62 metres) of boom and a 5 ton (4.535 tonne) lifting capacity.
You will be assessed at the location of your choice on the crane of your choice.
The assessment fee includes assessor travel to any location with regular scheduled flights in Western and Northern Canada (or within 2 hours travel). Outside of these areas, please contact our main office for an estimated travel quote.
Upon successful completion of all sections of your assessment, you will be issued the CraneSafe Certificate — for the crane type you were assessed on — which will be sent to you by mail.
If you are not found to be competent, you will be given opportunity to re-assess (see below).
RE-ASSESSMENT
If you are found not yet competent in any of the components of the assessment, you can be re-assessed up to two times within 90 days of your first assessment. If, after the second re-assessment, you are still found not yet competent in any of the components, you must wait 60 days and then begin the certification from the beginning.
Depending on the results of your assessment, you can be re-assessed in any of these parts:
Part 2 |
Load Charts & Rigging |
Part 3 |
A. Pre-Operational
B. Set-Up & Hazard Assessment
C. Crane Operation (Target Course – With & Without Load) |
